What to Expect in a Tarot Reading

If you have never had a tarot reading, it helps to know what actually happens. Here is a plain, step-by-step look at an online reading with Richa Singh, from booking to the final card.

The short version

An online tarot reading is a calm, private conversation. You share a question, the reader lays out cards, and together you talk about what the images suggest for your situation. It usually feels less mysterious and more like a thoughtful chat with someone who knows how to read a very old set of symbols. You will not be judged, and you will not be pressured to buy anything or return.

Richa reads in two ways: live by video, or as a recorded voice note you can replay. You can compare both on the readings page.

Step 1: Choose a reading and send your question

Start on the booking page and pick the reading that fits. The One Question voice note is $15 and arrives within 48 hours. Love & Path is $35 for 30 minutes live. The Celtic Cross is $59 for 50 minutes live, with a recording. Then write your question and a few words of context. Short is fine. Richa replies to every booking request within 24 hours.

Step 2: Confirm your time

For a live reading, Richa will suggest a time that suits you. Clients come from the US, UK, Canada, Australia and other countries, so time zones are part of the conversation. Double-check the time in your own zone, and let Richa know if something changes. For a voice note, no scheduling is needed; you simply wait for your recording.

Step 3: The reading itself

In a live session, you meet on video and Richa will begin with a brief welcome and a check on your question. She shuffles and lays out the cards, then reads them one by one and as a whole story. You are welcome to interrupt, ask for clarification or say "that does not fit". A reading is a two-way conversation, and your feedback makes it better.

Voice notes work the same way, minus the live back-and-forth. Richa records her interpretation of your spread in plain English, which you can listen to at your own pace and replay as many times as you like.

Step 4: After the reading

Give yourself a little quiet time afterward. Many people find it helpful to jot down the main points while they are fresh: which cards appeared, what struck them and what they might do next. With a Celtic Cross, you also receive a recording to revisit. Do not rush to act. Let the ideas settle, and take any practical decisions with your usual care.

How to prepare

You do not need to do anything special, but a few small habits help:

If you are new to the cards, the tarot for beginners guide covers the basics, though it is entirely optional.

Questions to avoid

Some questions are better left out of a tarot reading, either because tarot cannot answer them honestly or because they would be better handled elsewhere.

If you want a good question, try something open, like "What do I need to understand about this situation?" Our love and career pages have more examples.

Privacy

What you share in a reading stays private. Richa does not discuss your reading with others, and you choose how much to tell her. You never need to provide private details beyond what you feel comfortable sharing. You are welcome to leave out names, places and anything else you prefer not to say. If you have questions about how your information is handled, read the policies linked in the website footer, or ask before you book.

What a reading cannot do

It is worth being honest about the limits. A tarot reading cannot guarantee any outcome, predict the future with certainty, or know private details about you or other people. It is not a substitute for medical, legal, financial or mental-health advice. If you are in crisis or unsafe, please contact local emergency services or a qualified professional. The disclaimer sets out these limits in full.

What a reading can do is give you perspective. It can help you notice what you feel, weigh your options and take a calmer next step. If you are curious about the cards themselves, browse the tarot card meanings, or try the free tarot reading to get a feel for the experience.

Age, refunds and questions

Readings are for adults aged 18 and over. If something goes wrong or you have a concern, the refund policy explains your options clearly. Other questions are answered in the tarot reading FAQ.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to prepare anything for an online tarot reading?

Not really. It helps to think of a question beforehand, find a quiet place with a stable internet connection and keep a notebook nearby. You do not need any tarot knowledge, and you do not need to believe in anything in particular. Just bring your question.

How long does a reading take?

A Love & Path reading is 30 minutes live, and a Celtic Cross is 50 minutes live. A One Question reading is a recorded voice note delivered within 48 hours of booking, so there is nothing to attend at a set time. If you are unsure which suits your question, choose the shorter option first.

Will the reader tell me bad news?

Richa does not use fear or predict disasters. If a card is difficult, she explains what it may be pointing to and what you might do with that awareness. The tone is honest, kind and practical, and you are free to ask questions or pause at any point.

Can I record my reading?

The Celtic Cross reading includes a recording. The One Question reading is itself a recorded voice note. For other sessions, ask Richa when you book whether a recording is possible. A recording is handy for revisiting the details later, once the first impressions have settled.

What if I do not agree with a card's meaning?

That is completely fine and useful. Tell Richa when something does not fit. Cards can point in several directions, and your feedback helps her find the interpretation that genuinely makes sense for your situation. A reading is a conversation, not a lecture.
